Pennsylvania Workers’ Comp Goes Digital: Act 126 Mandates Direct Deposit
November 13, 2024 | News
In big news for injured workers in Pennsylvania, Governor Shapiro recently signed Act 126 of 2024 into law, bringing workers’ compensation payments into the 21st century. This means faster and more convenient access to your benefits through direct deposit.
What Does this Mean for You?
Starting 60 days from the bill’s effective date (10/29/2024), you’ll be able to have your workers’ compensation benefits deposited directly into your bank account. No more waiting for checks in the mail, no more trips to the bank, and no more worrying about mail delays.
Why is This a Win for Workers?
The new law presents a number of benefits for injured workers, including:
- Speed: Direct deposit means you’ll receive your payments quicker, allowing you to pay bills and manage expenses more efficiently.
- Security: Direct deposit eliminates the risk of lost or stolen checks.
- Convenience: Say goodbye to the hassle of depositing paper checks. Your money will be available automatically on payday.
It also brings Pennsylvania into step with other major state workers’ compensation systems.
What Do You Need to Do?
To set up direct deposit, you’ll need to provide the following information to your insurance carrier:
- Name and address of your financial institution
- Your account number
- Your routing number
- Financial institution phone number
Insurance companies will no longer be able to issue paper checks unless you don’t have a bank account that can accept direct deposit.
